AIVF Closes Its Doors
...but The Independent may continue on.
Unfortunately, it's official.
Despite valiant and long-running efforts to
sustain the New York-based, but national in scope
Association of Independent Video and
Filmmakers,
AIVF's board of directors recently announced that
their emergency fundraising appeal was only partially
successful.
While management is still in talks with like-minded
AIVF
colleagues and supporters re: the possibility of
others taking over hands-on management of The
Independent while also reinventing and
relaunching AIVF as a membership organization, AIVF
is currently scheduled to close operations in just a
few days, on Wednesday, June 28th.
In a challenging climate for media arts
organizations
of every size, the struggles of AIVF resonate with
mediamakers across the country, including those
here at PIFVA. As we strive to make PIFVA
increasingly relevant -- and eventually indispensable -
- to your work as independent mediamakers, we need
your
input and support more than ever.
One of the many benefits AIVF offered its
members
was access to affordable health insurance,
something that can be challenging for artists. PIFVA
hopes to soon offer a local alternative for AIVF
members whose health insurance benefits will end at
the close of 2006, as well as other interested PIFVA
members. Keep an eye on your inbox this summer!

PIFVA News and Notes
Did you miss the last few E-Bulletins?
No problem. Now you can find them online at the PIFVA.org Web
site, so bookmark us just in case.
PIFVA member Michelle Pollino is looking
for archival video footage and stills from 1970s era
Philadelphia for a project she's working on,
particularly if it details nightlife culture. Rarely seen
footage is ideal, but that's definitely not a
requirement. If you can help, contact Michelle at
pollinom@gmail.com or pollinom@mac.com
.
More happy news from PIFVA member Tom
Mattera! The 4th Dimension has been officially
selected to make its Los Angeles Premiere in the
Competition Category of the Dances With Films
Film Festival in July 2006. The 4th
Dimension has also been officially selected to
make its International Premiere in the First Film World
Competition Category of the World Film
Festival in Montreal in August of
2006. And the film has also just received
another strong review from
Robert Koehler of Variety.
