Designed to deepen your experience of film-going, PJFF’s newest program connects the world of film to other art forms and modes of expression. For our inaugural FilmConnects event, we introduce you to the wild world of poetry slams — and bring to you the power and enormity that is Louder Than a Bomb!

This energizing documentary tells the story of four Chicago high school poetry teams as they prepare for and compete in the world's largest youth slam. By turns hopeful and heartbreaking, the film captures the tempestuous lives of these unforgettable kids, exploring the ways writing shapes their world and vice-versa. While the topics they tackle are often deeply personal, what they put into their poems and what they get out of them is universal: the defining work of finding one's own voice.

Followed by Live Poetry Performance by members of Philadelphia Youth Poetry Movement, participants of "Writers Matter" and some of Philadelphia's celebrated slam poets.
