Biography:
Gail first became a member of PIFVA c. 1995 and is a graduate of Temple University’s Annenberg School of Communications where she focused on documentary filmmaking. She has been working as an independent producer and director for over 18 years. She also freelances as Editor, Director of Photography, Camera Operator, Sound Recorder and Casting Director. She is currently producing documentaries for IDVAAC (Institute on Domestic Violence in the African American Community, University of Minnesota) exploring domestic violence and prevention, and it’s impact on various segments of the African American community. She was Production Assistant then promoted to Assistant to the Director for Moments in Time: Valley Forge for the Discovery Channel. She directed and co-produced Smart, Proud, Respected: Student Success in Charter Schools, a documentary shot in Waco, TX about best practices in public education. She produced for Kept Quiet, a half hour program on Drexel University Television Cable 54 in Philadelphia. Gail wrote and produced The Hottentot Venus, a documentary, and she co-produced, co-directed and edited Just Once, a same-sex, safer sex mock public service announcement for women. Both of these works have been broadcast nationally, and screened nationally and internationally.
She had taught Video Production at Arcadia University and Editing Final Cut Pro at Scribe Video Center and facilitated Precious Places projects for Scribe.
She was awarded by Transformation Detroit, as well as the Women of Color Task Force and the Michigan Coalition Against Domestic and Social Violence, in recognition of her “phenomenal video documentary, a sensitive portrait of Detroit communities of color domestic violence service organizations.”
She is also a recipient of the ABC (American Broadcasting Company) Entertainment Television Group’s Talent Development Program award for “recognition of creative excellence” for Smart, Proud, Respected.
